A former financial planner and a recent graduate of the Victoria College of Art, my attention to the formal elements of art making has been divided between textiles and painting. Both disciplines focus on layered structure, the pure beauty of saturated colour as an abstraction of the natural world.
Paintings are both in oil and acrylic that implement the illusion of form and space and the impact of mixed media texture on a larger scale. I employ methods of surface design that derive reference from spatial order. Constructions of paintings are often expanded from intricate small-scale maquettes. Textile pieces are directed towards 3 dimensional thread paintings, silk dyeing and batik.
